The Old Stuff Chronicles

Today I thought I would change from the normal single-level selection and pick a full Doom 2 megawad. Released back in early 1996, Memento Mori was one of the first "community megawads," put together by a large group of people from around the globe with no intention other than to make a cool Doom 2 WAD. With 32 levels, new music, and some new textures, it set the standard in Doom level excellence for its time. Memento Mori went on to spawn a sequel, Memento Mori II, but some people still consider the original to be the best. Here's a review of it from Doom Underground if you'd like to know more.

"Ultimately these new developments may see the death of many decent and popular gaming sites on the Internet."

Damn them to hell. It is a conspiracy I tell you a conspiracy!! I hope DooM World does not go down for good. This site is the fore-runner to ALL DooM newsites. Without DooM World all DooMers would be DooMed. :-)

Check it out DooMers. I know it has nothing to do with DooM but I just checked Snowball/IGN site and it looks like alot of good game sites may get shut down. This GameSpy article says that Snowball/IGN may be shutting down.

Uh Ling I think you better keep and eye on whoever you have the site running from. I think DooMworld use's TeleNation.

Opulent is right, it was originally released in a split-file format to fit on 3 floppies, and also as one full file (I believe). Then, as Nick says, in 1996 there was an updated version which fixed a few level bugs, which is why the file you can now download is called mm_allup.zip - all the stuff, and the "up" is for updated.

I think they released an updated version that fixed some bugs or something.

IIRC, it was released in a (3)1.44mb floppy friendly version first...
that's how I originally got it anyway...

Think you got it wrong, Ling - I quite clearly remember eagerly downloading and playing MM1 on Christmas Eve 1995. Brilliant .wad, rewrote the rules for high-quality level design. Of course, the sequel was far better <ducks> ;)
