Although we've had a look back at the past year in the last update, I think it's
worth doing the same in a more interactive fashion. Shamelessly stolen from
here,
it's my pleasure to announce this.
Seen it? Done it? Fine.
New demos:
Ultimate DOOM:
Xit Vono did a new Tyson for E4M2, beating the old record by nearly 8 minutes,
time is 13:45.
Laszlo Vecsei improved his own E2M8 NM record by 1 second to
0:30.
Chris Laverdure improved the E2M5 NM100S record to
2:18.
DOOM2:
A new player from the Czech Republic made a stunning debut. Jan "Doomgeek" Vida
opened with a 30nm recording, catching the 2nd best time with
43:32.
Plutonia:
Drew "stx-Vile" DeVore did a bunch of quality movies (all of them first time ever,
since these are the first movies for this excellent WAD), first of all he ran the
whole thing on UV in just 41:11,
maps 01-10 in 10:38, maps
11-20 in 12:28 and maps
21-30 in 13:52.
He also did the first ever NightMare run for MAP23 in 2:15, as well as an UV Speed run for the same level in

as well, he ran maps 01-10 in 19:07,

like he's on fire at the moment!

2:08. In the meanwhile,
Laszlo Vecsei improved the MAP03 NM100S record to 2:21 and Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff improved the record for MAP13

5:36,
which was improved by newcomer Jason Dyer's 4:58. Xit Vono clinched the record again
with 4:50.

0:44, for

First of all, our contest has ended, you can check out the results here.
Second, I sent out the player profiles to all the players who haven't received one yet. If you haven't received
it but you think you should have, please send an email. Also, there is now a chance for everyone who already
*have* a profile to send a new, updated one. If you think the time has come, send yours along :)
Before we hit the demos, here's a roundup of the events in the year 2001:
January: Henning Skogsto recorded the first demo of the
year. Radek Pecka did three excellent Episode Max runs: Ep1 in 20:10, Ep2 in 30:05 and Ep3
in 24:17.
February: There was contest time this month. On the map called Essorg, Henning Skogsto made the fastest run
with his 0:46 demo. Radek Pecka did the whole DOOM2 game in just over two hours, killing all monsters and finding all secrets. We started the
vote on PWADs this month, and the demos in /incoming got a mirror.
March: COMPET-N started accepting demos for five PWADs: Hell Revealed, Requiem, Memento Mori, Memento Mori 2 and the
Classic Episode. Anders Johnsen was the first ever player to complete
E4M2 on Tyson.
April: Right on the first day of the month, there was an April's Fool joke a couple of people fell for ;-) Adam Williamson
did a speedrun movie of DOOM Ep1 in 5:11. Jonathan
Rimmer recorded an incredible Max of E1M1 in 0:29.
We started receiving PWAD demos.. tons :))
May: The homepage hit #50000 this month. Adam Williamson was the first ever player to complete Pacifist runs for
E3M1 and E3M9. Newcomers Oyvind Stenhaug and Erwin Lin recorded their first demos.
June: Henning Skogsto was the first ever player to complete the whole game of DOOM2 in NightMare skill AND 100% secrets on all maps,
in just over the hour. Vincent Catalaa soon followed
with a slightly slower run. Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff
recorded the first ever -fast on MAP24. Newcomer Xit Vono
recorded his first demo this month.
July: Newcomers Albert Valls and Richie Agnew recorded their first ever demos. Henning Skogsto improved his NM100S run
by 7 minutes. The COMPET-N database and FTP had
a well-needed synchronization.

on Plutonia MAP17. Henning Skogsto, Vincent Catalaa and Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek did a nice 3-way run through
DOOM2 in just 27:30.
September: Xit Vono was the first ever player to finish E2M8 Tyson
style. He also did a 10-level movie for
Requiem. I did a keytrick on Requiem MAP07.

another new player, Ian Sabourin.
Some numbers from last year for the statistic-lovers:
959 single-player demos during the year, 620 of those were IWAD demos, 339 demos were for PWADs. Altogether, that's the
