I guess everything you see speaks for itself so I don't need much commenting on it :)
First, the design you see is the work of the tornado,
a fellow Hungarian. Personally I think he did a marvellous job, I hope you all agree :)
Second, those with a sharp eye can see a new link down the menu, called "Forum". Feel
free to post your opinion about anything related to COMPET-N and DOOM speedrunning
in general (for example, give some feedback on the design :). Everything you need to know is
explained in the forum itself, please take your time and read it, it won't hurt :)
Third, I know you've all been waiting for the new contest to come. Because this update
was getting way too long to make, I chose to update now, with the redesign and the forum
in hand, rather than making you wait even longer for the contest to come. The contest is
on the way in the next update definately... don't worry about it :)
Now, let's see what happened in the last month!
Ultimate DOOM:
After showing that Tyson for E2M8, Xit Vono continues to impress us and recorded the
first ever Tyson for E4M7, in 15:38.
Make sure you download and see how it's done! I won't spoil it for you...
After Xit's performance I felt I must try it myself and made a healthy improvement on
the time, cutting it to 7:56.
Xit hasn't stopped here though, he improved the legendary E4M1 Tyson by Patrick Martin,
by over an hour! Must download.
Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek is ready to show he feels comfortable in Maxkills as well
and recorded a very impressive E4M2 in 1:30. In addition, he snatched the UV -respawn record as well with
1:11.
COMPET-N veteran Steffen "Rini" Udluft made his return with a -respawn of E4M6 in
2:59. His time was soon
improved by Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek's 2:47.
Vaclav "Bolton" Kunes made his first ever Ultimate DOOM demo with a quick Pacifist
of E2M7 in 0:21.
DOOM2:
We rarely see UV Speedruns of this game nowadays, but they are always assured to
be great. Laszlo Vecsei improved his own MAP15 record and got
1:26.
There's some great Pacifist action by the best Czech players: Radek Pecka improved
MAP11 to 0:47
and MAP32 to 0:23,
while Vaclav "Bolton" Kunes improved MAP06 to 1:22 and MAP13 to 2:04.
They also got a bit of a fight going over MAP09 Pacifist. Radek started off with
1:13, then Bolton
soon improved it to 1:12.
Not that Radek got intimidated... he sent 1:09. Bolton soon showed he can do even better, he recorded
1:06. These guys sure
have patience!
Plutonia:
Plutonia is buzzing with activity again, thanks to a new player. Here are the first demos
by Drew "stx-Vile" DeVore (all UV Speed): MAP02 in 0:53, MAP04 in 0:46, MAP05 in 0:29, MAP06 in 1:06, MAP08 in 1:35, MAP14 in 0:21 (new trick here!), MAP19 in 0:37 and MAP21 in 0:34.
It's not just him producing the action though, here's Vincent Catalaa with a MAP04 run
of 0:43, Selim
"Bastard" Benabdelkhalek with a MAP22 run of 1:29 and a MAP26 run of 0:49, and myself with a MAP21 run of 0:08 (new trick!) and a MAP05 run of 0:28 (already improved by Drew's 0:27).
Radek Pecka recorded a nice-looking maxkill of MAP05 in 2:35.
Chris Laverdure recorded two Pacifists: MAP10 in 0:30 and MAP16 in 0:24. Later this MAP16 run was improved by Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek, who
got 0:21 (also a record for
UV Speed).
Last but not least, there's a MAP11 (archie maze) Tyson by Xit Vono in 22:03 and a MAP27 NightMare by Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek
in 0:55.
Finally, there's a batch of UV -fast demos by Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff over
MAP02,
MAP03,
MAP05,
MAP13,
MAP21 and
MAP28.
Evilution:
Drew "stx-Vile" DeVore dropped a couple of speedruns for this WAD too:
MAP04 in 0:12,
MAP05 in 1:31,
MAP10 in 1:03 and
MAP17 in 0:38.
Nice improvements by Radek Pecka: MAP05 UV Speed in 1:23, MAP01 NM in 0:35; MAP07 NM by Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek in
0:59 and MAP10
NM by Xit Vono in 2:23.
More runs by Xit Vono: MAP01 NM100S in 1:06, MAP10 NM100S in 3:13, MAP08 Tyson in 23:46, MAP09 Tyson in 34:30 and MAP13 Tyson in 24:16.
Demos by Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff: MAP07 UV -respawn in 4:58, MAP12 UV -respawn in 4:57, MAP13 UV -respawn in 3:51, MAP32 UV -respawn in 5:22 and MAP32 UV -fast in 6:27.
Quite a bit of fighting over MAP01 -respawn in just a few days. Chris Laverdure kicked
off with his 0:58,
improved by Xit Vono's 0:55.
Later, Laszlo Vecsei improved it to 0:51, but Radek Pecka stepped in and got 0:47.
Selim "Bastard" Benabdelkhalek recorded a MAP07 Pacifist in 1:43.
On to PWADs, we kick off with HR:
Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff makes a hard map look easy and sent a Max of MAP16 in just
14:10.
Requiem:
There's the usual batch of speedruns by Xit Vono: MAP21 in 6:36 and MAP25 in 2:14.
Oyvind Stenhaug also recorded speedruns: MAP04 in 2:03 and MAP27 in 5:25.
There's a battle for the MAP10 Speed record: Oyvind Stenhaug started off with
1:10,
which was soon improved by Xit Vono's 1:06. Oyvind struck back soon, his time
being 1:03.
It was time for Drew "stx-Vile" DeVore to step in, and he recorded a run of
1:01. Desperate
beating the minute mark, Oyvind soon posted 0:59, but Drew has the current upper hand with his
0:57 run.
Xit Vono recorded the first ever NightMare run of MAP21, clocking a hefty
10:50.
Latest in, Xit Vono made a NightMare movie of MAP01-03 in the time of
9:18. In
addition, he got 100% secrets on all maps.
And finally, there's a maxkill by Doug "Opulent" Merrill over
MAP25.
Memento Mori:
Oyvind Stenhaug continued filling the table, this time he did
MAP11 UV Speed in 0:34,
MAP13 UV Max in 8:34 and
MAP18 UV Speed in 4:10.
Classic Episode:
Vaclav "Bolton" Kunes and Radek Pecka think DOOM2 is a small fighting ground for them
and therefore recorded a few demos over E2M7 on this WAD: Bolton did it in 0:31, Radek improved it to
0:30, and Bolton
improved it further to 0:26.
What's more, he also did a Pacifist of 0:32.
Last in this update, Chris "Ryback" Ratcliff recorded E2M7 UV -respawn in
3:15.
This update's zip can be downloaded here.
Finally, I have to say thanks to the following:
the tornado for the site design and all his work
on it, excellent stuff.
Laura "BahdKo" Herrmann for providing web space for the forum.
Bjorn "_df" Hamels for suggestions and help in general and
especially on the upcoming contest.
Everyone who has sent and continues to send bug reports, thanks!
All the players for keeping this alive, you guys ROCK!
Everyone for their patience through the lack of updates and your never ceasing interest, thank you.
Keep on DOOMing!
