Hallway Speedtest Version 1 (HSV-1)

The test uses the map from Doom's Episode 2 map 5, set for no monsters,
and has been extracted and moved into a Doom2.exe compatible form.

To do the test, the e2m5.wad file is extracted into a directory where
Doom2 can access it, and run this way from the DOS prompt:

doom2 -file e2m5.wad -warp 1 -record mydemo

The player speedruns, while recording, the route that the included 27.lmp
recording demonstrates, and the time at exit is noted. The player's
speed rating is calculated as follows:
 

(1) Determine the base points by assigning the following points based on
whole second that shows on the exit screen of the recording:

(2) Use a utility to count the gametics that occur between where the
recording passes the last whole second until the first exit USE gametic.
For each gametic after the whole second, subtract one point from the Base
Points to determine the HSV-1 rating.

Example:

There is more than one demo analysis tool that can do this, for this
example we are using lmpc.

For a demo where the exit time was 27 seconds, we take the value 205 as
our base points.

We use the utility to examine the gametics exactly where the exit
switch was pressed:

In this case, we can count 28 gametics between the 27:00 gametic and the
exit. We do not include the 27:00 gametic in the count, but we do include
the first USE gametic of the exit. We then subtract 28 from the base points
of 205, leaving 177, which is the HSV-1 rating for the player as
demonstrated by this recording.
